Municipal Court
A conviction or guilty plea in Municipal Court can result in severe penalties and punishment; fines can be in the thousands of dollars; loss or ones driver's license for years; extended term community service or referral to the County Prosecutor's Office. Do not try to represent yourself in Municipal Court against a serious charge.
We have represented hundreds of people in Municipal Court for over thirty years. The more common and serious charges we see are DWI, reckless driving, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while suspended, drug charges, tickets and other motor vehicle offenses. These and other offenses can carry with them thousands of dollars in fines and loss of license for a substantial period of time. Jail time may also be involved. Mr. Mark has over thirty years of experience in handling these types of cases. He is very capable in negotiating a favorable plea deal with the local prosecutor. If plea negotiations fail, Mr. Mark will conduct your defense at a Municipal Court trial. Do not attempt to do this on your own.
The fines and penalties in Municipal Court can be very high. If you are ever arrested, remember the following points:
-
Never argue with the police. Be agreeable as possible. You will have the opportunity to present your side of the story at a later time. Nothing ever good comes of arguing with the arresting police officer.
-
You are not required to incriminate yourself. Never give a statement. If you do, that statement will be used against you at a later point in time.
-
If you are being questioned, do not answer and simply ask for a lawyer. You have the right to the assistance of your lawyer when you are being questioned.
-
You have the right to a lawyer. Do not be afraid to ask for a lawyer. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed for you.
